The Department of Mathematics was established in 1959 with an aim of providing quality education in the field of mathematics to make students acquire the in- depth knowledge to apply themselves meaningfully in an activity requiring mathematical expertise. The Department is well known for its untiring efforts and sincere dedication to setting the best standards for the teaching-learning process. We strongly believe that pedagogy is well strengthened not only by imparting the best lectures but also by giving students exposure of 'hands on practice' through practical classes and projects. The department has very experienced and dedicated members on its faculty list. The department has well-ventilated Wi Fi enabled and fire-safe laboratories for conducting practical classes to cater to various needs of the students. Laboratories are well furnished with expert laboratory assistants. The department provides a friendly environment and has objectives of accelerating the spirit of teamwork, confidence, creativity, management, and leadership qualities among students. The scientific spirit is nurtured with opportunities for organizing various seminars, slide shows, mathematical debates, educational trips, presentations, quizzes, webinars, workshops, and various other competitions and events. The department boasts many eminent alumni, who have occupied important academic and professional positions in India.
Mathematics, being an important component of life sciences, prepares students for traditional pursuits such as graduate study, teaching and work as an actuary. Students having an interest in mathematics can be combined with a pre-professional curriculum or in the sciences or engineering to provide a strong background for graduate study or employment in a field related to mathematics.
